According to various reports and Facebook, the Cracker Barrel has resumed selling Duck Dynasty products. They released the following statement on Sunday:
Dear Cracker Barrel Customer:
When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that’s just what we’ve done.
You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings. You flat out told us we were wrong.
Today, we are putting all our Duck Dynasty products back in our stores.
And, we apologize for offending you.
We respect all individuals right to express their beliefs. We certainly did not mean to have anyone think different.
We sincerely hope you will continue to be part of our Cracker Barrel family.
Looks like the “Duck Dynasty” controversy has moved its way into retail.
Cracker Barrel’s Old Country Store will be removing select Duck Dynasty products from its shelves — (Via YouTube / Cracker Barrel Old County Store) the first major retailer to announce any action since Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview went viral.
On its Facebook page the food chain posted, “Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people.”
Now the key here, is that the southern comfort restaurant is only taking down some products, and leaving others up. Joe Concha with Mediate tells Fox News this is like a wait and see type of approach.
“The old saying is you can’t kind of get a girl pregnant. You can’t kind of take some products that are deemed offensive off… I don’t quite understand what Cracker Barrel is doing. Either take a side or don’t take a side.”
On Twitter others have also voiced similar opinions. “Either remove all or no #DuckDynasty products – Not taking a stand just pisses both sides off.”
It’s so far unclear which products will be completely pulled and deemed offensive —
But prices for the items you can see for sale currently on the chain’s website have been slashed.
According to Forbes, Duck Dynasty sales at Cracker Barrel only represent a small part of the $400 million revenue that the franchise is set to reach this year, with Wal-Mart, alone, counting for about half of that.
But neither Walmart nor Target or Kohl’s have commented on the situation so far.
Under Armour, which also sells Duck Dynasty material, said Friday it was keeping its ties to the franchise. (Via WJZ)
