(Entravision) Salinas, CA. – On Tuesday 2/25/14, a 40 year old male assumed that he was losing his parental rights and custody of his children. He became despondent as a result. He climbed on the outside of the cyclone fence on John Street @ US 101 around 10:30a.m.. Southbound traffic on the 101 was backed up to Prunedale. Traffic in the local area was diverted. Negotiations were on going for approximately 3 hours before the man was taken into custody and transported to Natividad Medical Center for evaluation. Salinas Police Officers trained in Crisis Intervention along with 2 crisis workers from Monterey County Behavioral Health spoke with the man for several hours. Salinas Police was assisted by the California Highway Patrol, Salinas Fire Department and AMR.
