A car allegedly involved in an illegal street race careened out of control Tuesday morning, slamming through a San Jose home, authorities said.
In a prepared release, San Jose Police Sgt. Heather Randol said officers responded to reports of a crash in the 3300 Block of Cropley Ave at around 10:47 a.m.
Witnesses reportedly have told police they saw two vehicles racing at a high rate of speed when another unrelated vehicle entered the roadway and collided with one of the suspect vehicles.
The suspect vehicle then veered off the roadway and collided with a residence in the 3300 block of Cropley Ave causing major damage to the structure.
People were in the home at the time of the crash, authorities said, but were able to escape without injury.
Randol reported that both suspect drivers remained at the scene until police arrived.
One occupant of the suspect vehicle received moderate injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
Authorities said both drivers were facing illegal street racing charges.
The crash left a gaping hole in the side of the house. Engineers were checking the stability of the home trying to determine if the residents can return.
